Saturday Songs

So what if it's actually on a Sunday morning by accident?  This week has been FULL of getting ready for finals and our churches Christmas programs for both a local nursing home and our own program at the church.  :-)  So here is today's song!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
O Holy Night
By Placide Cappeau
1. O holy night, the stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth;
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
'Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn;
Chorus
Fall on your knees, Oh hear the angel voices!
O night divine! O night when Christ was born.
O night, O holy night, O night divine.
2. Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming;
With glowing hearts by his cradle we stand:
So, led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here come the wise men from Orient land,
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our friend;
Chorus
He knows our need, To our weakness no stranger!
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King! your King! before him bend!
3. Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is Love and His gospel is Peace;
Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother,
And in his name all oppression shall cease,
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful Chorus raise we;
Let all within us praise his Holy name!
Chorus
Christ is the Lord, then ever! ever praise we!
His pow'r and glory, evermore proclaim!
His pow'r and glory, evermore proclaim!
(The choruses for the second and third verse are generally dropped and replaced with the chorus of the first verse.)
And for an added bonus, some alternative lyrics I found (under the title O Night Divine!) that I really like.
1. O night divine! the stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth:
O hearts that weep, in lonely sorrow pining,
Behold, He comes with redeeming love to earth!
The light of hope now the waking world rejoices,
For brightly breaking, there dawns a glorious morn.
Chorus
Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices!
O night divine
When the Holy Child was born!
O night divine
O night when Christ was born.
2. O night divine! thy hallow'd beams returning,
Proclaim the news of the dear Saviour's birth:
While grateful hearts with love and rapture burning
Take up the song of good will to all the earth!
The light of hope still the waking world rejoices,
While yet more bright she beholds the glorious morn. Chorus
3. O night divine! when time shall cease for ever,
Our souls will tell of the dear Saviour's birth:
When home at last we meet, no more to sever
We'll sing again of good will and peace to earth!
The light of hope now the waking world rejoicing
Will there be lost in a morn of endless day. Chorus
